Shafer Family

About our rings Though often thought to represent an imported automobile or the Olympic rings, They do have their own identity. Each ring represents a member of the Shafer family directly responsible for the success of our company.

Bob Shafer Sr., often known simply as 'senior' began building cabinets as a sideline business in the sixties, and then after some years selling in the electrical equipment wholesale trade. Missing working directly with people who appreciate his craft, Senior began doing small kitchens and woodworking out of his single car garage in 1980. As his talents became better known and in demand he brought in the help of a neighbor* and began building a small business. In 1982, he moved the 'shop' to South Saint Paul into the old Armour Packaging Plant where he, one full time, and a variety of part time employees helped him continue his growth. In 1984 as the packaging plant was tagged to be demolished he moved again, this time to Saint Paul Park and into the old Saint Paul Park Jr. High school wood shop which had been purchased by private investors. This was a good place to further his business and gave him the room to add help as reputation of his work grew. Senior is married to Delores for 54 years, he has 7 children, 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. An avid boater and snowmobiler he may not be found working at the shop on Fridays.

Bob Shafer Jr. (Bobby) began working with is father in 1986 after working in the product industry for four years after graduating Simley High School. Bobby soon found similar talents to senior on the production floor but seemingly added precision detail to an already very exact trade. Bobby works well with the team on the production floor. He has a great skill for acquiring and understanding each customer's specific requirements and the ability to implement them through production regardless of the endless array of differences each 'custom' order may require. Bob Jr. is married to Jane for 14 years and has three children, living in Prescott WI.

Tim Shafer (Timmy) began working with the family business in 1991. He was a Quality Engineer for eight years prior and enjoys the challenges of managing a custom business by attaining controls to ensure the old word qualities while providing today's requirements to demanding, educated consumers. Tim picks up on primarily sales but works with each customer drafting the specifications and detailed drawings to forward to production. Tim is married for 12 years with 2 children living in Prescott WI.

Today, Shafer Cabinets still occupies the wood Shop where senior moved to in 1986, Although since then the family has purchased 27,000 sq. of the property which the majority is occupied the business.

Often the Shafer family has thought to add rings to the logo. Each person involved with the shop is each, equally responsible for its success. What we do well is because of each of the combined talents of everyone involved form working with the customer on design, through production and finishing and to the installation. Each stage is as important as the next. The Shafer family recognizes these people and considers each of them as more than a team member but part of our family.

Still today, Bob seniors first employee * Ray Lambach remains our most senior craftsman. Though enjoying some time off Ray remains senior's sight in the shop making sure that things are done the old way, the right way!
Glenn has worked part time with the family for years before retiring form AT&T in 1991. His pure love for woodworking keeps him working in the lead as our master craftsman. Glenn's enjoyment of the trade is seen in each project produced and his level of dedication to quality and the trade is a benchmark for each cabinetmaker brought in behind him.
The Shafer family hand builds each cabinet so our shop is made up of a selected group of craftsman. Those who before becoming part of the family must posses a love for the trade and the ability to work closely and well with others within it. The Shafer family is fortunate to have such an extension of family members creating our traditions.
